things i find useful for making a website
- 32bit cafe resource list - master list for anything you could ever need for websites
- graphics 4 free - old site with cool 3d graphics i'm using for buttons and borders
- css 3d buttons - collection of really neat skeumorphic button designs using only css
- broider - make your own pixel border for your containers
- border-image-generator - or make one from an existing image (i used this for these borders, it's pretty sweet)
- claymorphism css generator - the basis i used to make the rounded containers on the site
- hover.css - very nice hover animations you can slap in to your code
- phoenix code - code editor i use for making this website. has some pretty good features imo
- dannarchy's neocities hit counter - using this for the hit counter on my homepage, super simple and very effective
- dannarchy's neocities hit counter - using this for the hit counter on my homepage, super simple and very effective
- melon's frame links script - makes it possible to link to specific pages on a frame site. also very fun to break with recursion like this
- deploy your site to neocities - i use the github action to deploy my site and it's soooo nice, can be a bit of a pain to set up depending on your workflow but i promise it's worth it
- gsap - really cool animation/physics javascript framework
make your windows system suck less
i use linux now but these are what made windows survivable for me
- winutil - bulk installer, debloater, and generalize tweaks to fix a lot of major annoyances
- win11debloat - if winutil has too many options and you don't want to worry about the details, just paste this script into powershell and you're good to go. also works with windows 10 despite the name
- winaero tweaker - similar to the tweaks portion of winutil but with a nicer gui and better descriptions
- wiztree - really nice tool for cleaning up your hard drive, with a cool graph for analyzing where your storage is being taken up
- autoruns - official microsoft tool for more in-depth configuration of startup and scheduled processes that don't show up in task manager. great for killing anything edge related
- windows 10 ltsc - if you're willing to do a clean install, this is the best possible version of windows you can get without switching to linux instead. will continue to get security updates until 2032
music stuff
- ableton guide to making music - really nice guide that aims to provide solutions to problems you might run into when making music on your computer. aimed toward all levels of expertise
- reaper - my DAW of choice on windows. runs natively on linux too, but i could never get my VSTs to work quite right with it
- discover quickly - find new music through what i like to call "algorithmaxxing". i've found more songs than i'd like to admit through here. requires spotify premium
- rateyourmusic - or find new music through the recommendations of a bunch of music nerds with very specific opinions
- ishkur's guide to electronic music - i don't know if you can get more definitive than this
- nightwave plaza - just a nice vaporwave radio site, i listen to it to sleep sometimes
3d stuff
- cosmic blobs - super cool old 3d modeling software. like kidpix combined with windows paint 3d. used to make the computer guy on the homepage along with some others. secondary link from old mac site
- clay doh - blender addon for clay materials. really really good. used to make the frame/icons
- bforartists - an interesting fork of blender that aims to redesign the ui to be more intuitive/accessible. i'm unsure of how successful it is at achieving this, but i quite respect the vision
- womp - another interesting 3d modeling software. seems fairly intuitive, and is designed to more easily create "blobby" models, however is only available through the browser and really pushes for a premium subscription.
misc
- tinytools - just a bunch of really cool tools for various creative purposes
- shadertoy - i love going here and just looking at all the crazy visuals people make
- daedalus - this one is a rabbit hole. a maze generator software that has been actively updated since 1998, and seems to have evolved into a pseudo-game engine
- what football will look like in the future - really interesting article. just read it i promise it's a normal article about football trust me
- copyparty - really neat little file server program. got it set up as my own personal cloud after following this guide with some trial and error
- discmaster - HUGE archive of cd-roms. specifically interesting for all those old texture/graphic cds
